сожра́ть [sazh-rát'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - сжира́ть

to gobble up, to eat greedily

  • Обжо́ра, ты сожра́л всё пече́нье!

    ab-zhó-ra, ty sazh-rál fsyo pee-chén'-ye

    You are a glutton, you have gobbled up all the cookies!

  • Кто сожра́л мой обе́д?

    kto sazh-rál moi a-byét?

    Who have eaten my lunch?

сам не свой [sam nye svoi] Phrase, feminine - "сама не своя"

not himself, beside himself

  • Он сам не свой от сча́стья.

    on sam nye svoi at schást'-ya

    He is out of himself from happiness.

  • Она́ весь день сама́ не своя́.

    a-ná vyes' dyen' sa-má nye svá-ya

    She's not herself all day long.

поплати́ться [pa-pla-tée-tsa] Verb

to pay for something one has done

  • Ты мне за э́то попла́тишься!

    ty mnye za é-ta po-plá-teesh-sya

    You'll pay me for this!

  • Он поплати́лся здоро́вьем за свою́ любо́вь к сигаре́там.

    on pa-pla-téel-sya zda-róv'-yem za sva-yú lyu-bóf' k see-ga-ryé-tam

    He paid with health for his love to cigarettes.

замахну́ться [za-mah-nú-tsa] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - зама́хиваться

to make to hit, to lift one's arm (against); to prepare for something difficult

  • Он замахну́лся на соба́ку па́лкой.

    on za-mah-núl-sya na sa-bá-ku pál-kai

    He lifted a stick againts the dog.

  • На́ши спортсме́ны замахну́лись на зо́лото.

    na-shee sparts-myé-ny za-mah-nú-lees' na zó-la-ta

    Our athletes are preparing to get the gold (medals).

уплета́ть [up-lee-tát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - уплести́

to eat greedily, to stuff oneself with (food)

  • Наш кот с аппети́том уплета́ет огурцы́.

    nash kot s a-pee-tée-tam up-lee-tá-eet a-gur-tsý

    Our cat guzzles cucumbers with an appetite.

  • Го́сти уплета́ли блины́ за о́бе щёки.

    gós-tee up-lee-tá-lee blee-ný za ó-bee schyó-kee

    The guests were gobbling down the blini (were eating greedily behind both cheeks).

вкусня́тина [fkus-nyá-tee-na] Noun, feminine

it's delicious, yummy, tasty

  • Кака́я вкусня́тина! Что э́то?

    ka-ká-ya fkus-nyá-tee-na! chto é-ta?

    This is delicious! What's this?

  • Ну и вкусня́тина э́ти ва́ши пирожки́!

    nu ee fkus-nyá-tee-na é-tee vá-shee pee-rash-kée

    They are so yummy, your patties!

сластёна [slas-tyó-na] Noun, masculine or feminine

sweet lover

  • Он ужа́сный сластёна, будь его́ во́ля - пита́лся бы одни́м пече́ньем.

    on u-zhás-nyi slas-tyó-na, but' ee-vó vó-lya, pee-tál-sya by ad-néem pee-chén'-yem

    He is such a sweet lover, if it was up to him, he would feed on cookies only.

  • Ну ты и сластёна, сло́пал все конфе́ты!

    nu ty ee slas-tyó-na, sló-pal fsye kan-fyé-ty

    You are such a sweet lover! You ate all the candies!

потора́пливаться [pa-ta-ráp-lee-va-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - поторопи́ться

to make haste, to hurry

  • Потора́пливайтесь дава́йте, мы уже́ опа́здываем.

    pa-ta-ráp-lee-vai-tyes' da-vái-tye, my u-zhe a-páz-dy-va-eem

    Hurry up, we're already late.

  • На́до потора́пливаться, по́езд ухо́дит че́рез два́дцать мину́т.

    ná-da pa-ta-ráp-lee-va-tsa, pó-eest u-hó-deet ché-ryes dvá-tsat' mee-nút

    We must hurry, the train leaves in 20 minutes.

кривля́ться [kree-vlyá-tsa] Verb, imperfective

to grimace, to make faces

  • Переста́нь кривля́ться!

    pee-rees-tán' kreev-lyá-tsa

    Stop making faces!

  • Ваш сын кривля́ется на уро́ках.

    vash syn kreev-lyá-ee-tsa na u-ró-kah

    Your son makes grimaces in class.

глаза́стый [gla-zás-tyi] Adjective

big-eyed, pop-eyed; sharp-sighted, quick-sighted

  • Смотри́ кака́я глаза́стая, всё разгляде́ла!

    smat-rée ka-ká-ya gla-zás-ta-ya, vsyo raz-glya-dyé-la

    Look how sharp-sighted you are, saw everything!

  • На одно́м из стульев сиде́л худо́й глаза́стый мальчуга́н.

    na ad-nóm ees stúl'-yef see-dyél hu-dói gla-zás-tyi mal'-chu-gán

    On one of the chairs a thin big-eyed little boy was sitting.
