Russian words for beginners

In the section “Russian Words for Beginners” you can find basic Russian vocabulary that will help you to gain some confidence in making basic conversations and don’t look for your words when you want to express some simple ideas in Russian.

surname, family name

Examples

I will need your name, surname and passport number.

о́тпуск [ót-pusk] Noun, masculine

договори́ться [da-ga-va-rée-tsa] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - догова́риваться

Examples

We agreed that I will come tomorrow.

жи́рный [zhéer-nyi] Adjective

fat, oily, greasy

Examples

Моя́ ма́ма предпочита́ет жи́рное молоко́ нежи́рному.

My mother prefers fatty milk to low-fat one.

Be careful with this knife, it is very sharp.

How much do you earn there, if it's not a secret?
Зараба́тывает он не мно́го, но на жизнь хвата́ет.

He does not earn much, but it's enough for a living.
