I don’t care in Russian: How to say?
There are multiple options to say I don’t care in Russian.
1. Всё равно́
Всё равно́ is the most straightforward way. It is literally translated as everything is equal.
You need to add a pronoun in the Dative case to specify who does not care:
– Мне всё равно́.
[mnye fsyo rav-nó]
I don’t care.
– Тебе́ всё равно́.
[tee-byé fsyo rav-nó]
You don’t care.
– Eму всё равно́.
[ye-mú fsyo rav-nó]
He doesn’t care.
2. With the word чиха́ть:
Чиха́ть means to sneeze. In Russian, when you say that you sneeze on something, you don’t care about it. It is a bit ruder than всё равно́.
– мне чиха́ть
[mnye chee-hát’]
I don’t care.
– чиха́ть я хоте́л
[chee-hát’ ya ha-tyél]
I don’t care (for a man).
– чиха́ть я хоте́ла
[chee-hát’ ya ha-tyé-la]
I don’t care (for a woman).
3. With the word плева́ть:
Плева́ть means to spit. In Russian, when you say that you feel like spitting on something, it means you don’t care about it. It is even ruder than чиха́ть.
– мне плева́ть / мне наплева́ть
[mnye plee-vát’ / na=plee-vát’]
I don’t care. (I don’t give a crap.)
– плева́ть я хоте́л
[plee-vát’ ya ha-tyél]
I don’t give a crap (for a man).
– плева́ть я хоте́ла
[plee-vát’ ya ha-tyé-la]
I don’t give a crap (for a woman).
Examples
– Мне наплева́ть на то, что они́ ду́мают.
[mnye na-plee-vát na to, chto a-née dú-ma-yut]
I don’t care what they think.
– Мне чиха́ть на его́ пробле́мы.
[mnye chee-hát’ na ye-vó prab-lyé-my]
I could not care less about his problems.
– Плева́ть я хоте́ла на то, что там происхо́дит.
[plee-vát’ ya ha-tyé-la na to, chto tam pra-ees-hó-deet]
I don’t care about what’s happening there.
– Мне абсолю́тно всё равно́.
[mnye ap-sa-lyút-na fsyo rav-nó]
I really don’t care.
