10 Russian phrases to express your surprise

Russian language is rich in various emotional expressions and exclamations, which you might not know if you study the language only with a textbook and outside of the language environment.

Today we offer you a few Russian phrases that you can use to express your surprise. Each of the phrase has an emotional component and its own nuances. For example, some of them express a nice surprise while others express rather an unpleasant surprise or disappointment.

Many of these phrases do not have a direct translation into English, so we give you the closest English equivalent when possible.
