Anita says:
Hello, just want to confirm in the first example, занима́емой до́лжности is dative case?
Also I noticed that in Russian very often there is a cluster of consonants within a word like несоотве́тствие, do you actually pronounce all four consonants тств? Thanks
Learn Russian Words says:
Hi Anita,
Yes, занима́емой до́лжности is Dative.
In some cases, some consonats are not pronounced, in others like this one, -тс- becomes -ц- and then much easier to pronounce.
Here are more examples (from here):
– со́лнце [són-tse] – sun (omit Л)
– чу́вство [chú-stva] – feeling (omit В)
– здра́вствуйте [zdrást-vuî-tye] – hello (omit В)
– аге́нтство [a-gyénst-va] – agency (omit first Т)
Anita says:
And what is the difference between кро́ме как (in the second example) and just кро́ме? Thanks.
Learn Russian Words says:
If there is a verb that follows кроме, you need to add “как”, otherwise it does not sound right:
– У нас не осталось продуктов, кроме хлеба.
We have no food left but bread.
– Ему не осталось ничего другого, кроме как уйти.
He had no choice but to leave.
