Hello, the verb after почти́, is it always in past tense? In the first example, зако́нчилась is used although in the English translation, the toothpaste has not run out. Thanks.

“Почти” literally means “almost”, you can simply say “almost finished”.
So the tense of the verb is the same as it would be in English.
