гла́дить [glá-deet'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - погла́дить

to pat, to caress; to iron

  • Не гладь кота́ про́тив ше́рсти, он э́того не лю́бит.

    nye glad' ka-tá pró-teef shérs-tee, on é-ta-va nye lyú-beet

    Do not rub the cat the wrong way (against the direction of the fur), he does not like it.

  • Чья о́чередь гла́дить бельё?

    ch'-ya ó-chee-ryed' glá-deet' beel'-yó

    Whose turn to iron clothes?

лете́ть [lee-tyét'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - полете́ть

to fly

  • Туда́ мы лете́ли самолётом, а обра́тно на по́езде.

    tu-dá my lee-tyé-lee sa-ma-lyó-tam, a ab-rát-na na pó-eez-dye

    We flew there by plane, and got back by train.

  • Когда́ ты лети́шь в Рим?

    kag-dá ty lee-téesh v reem

    When is your flight to Rome?

бе́гать [byé-gat'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - сбе́гать, побе́гать

to run

  • По у́трам я бе́гаю.

    pa ut-rám ya byé-ga-yu

    I run in the mornings.

  • Де́ти бе́гали наперегонки́.

    dyé-tee byé-ga-lee na pye-rye-gan-kée

    The children were chasing each other.

ходи́ть [ha-déet'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - сходи́ть

to walk, to go

  • Она́ ходи́ла по ко́мнате взад и вперёд.

    a-ná ha-dée-la pa kóm-na-tye vzat ee vpee-ryót

    She was walking back and forth in the room.

  • Авто́бусы здесь не хо́дят.

    av-tó-bu-sy zdyes' nye hó-dyat

    Buses do not come here.

е́здить [yéz-deet'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - съе́здить

to go (by vehicle), to drive, to ride

  • Ей нра́вится е́здить верхо́м.

    yeî nrá-vee-tsa yéz-deet' veer-hóm

    She likes horse riding.

  • На выходны́х мы е́здили в Ни́жний Но́вгород.

    na vy-had-nýh my yéz-dee-lee v néezh-neeî nóv-ga-rat

    On the weekend we went to Nizhny Novgorod.

лета́ть [lee-tát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - слета́ть, полета́ть

to fly

  • Он ча́сто лета́ет.

    on chás-ta lee-tá-eet

    He flies often (by plane).

  • На про́шлой неде́ле мы лета́ли в Ни́ццу.

    na prósh-laî nee-dyé-lye my lee-tá-lee v née-tsu

    Last week we flew to Nice.

идти́ [eed-tée] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - пойти́

to go, to walk

  • Он шёл им навстре́чу.

    on shol eem navst-ryé-chu

    He was walking toward them.

  • Иди́те за мной.

    ee-dée-tye za mnoî

    Follow me.

плыть [plyt'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - поплы́ть

to swim, to float, to sail

  • Хва́тит плыть по тече́нию, пора́ что́-то меня́ть!

    hvá-teet plyt' pa tee-ché-nee-yu, pa-rá chto-ta mee-nyát'

    Enough to swim with the flow, it's time to change something!

  • По не́бу ни́зко плы́ли облака́.

    pa nyé-bu néez-ka plý-lee ab-la-ká

    The clouds were sailing low across the sky

зева́ть [zee-vát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - прозева́ть

to yawn; to gawk / gape

  • Го́сти на́чали зева́ть от ску́ки.

    gós-tee ná-chee-lee zee-vát' at skú-kee

    The guests began to yawn with boredom.

  • Эй, не зева́й!

    ei, nye zee-vái

    Hey! Stop gaping aroud!

помаха́ть [pa-ma-hát'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - маха́ть

to wave

  • Помаха́й им руко́й!

    pa-ma-hái eem ru-kói

    Wave your hand to them!

  • Она́ помаха́ла нам издалека́.

    a-ná pa-ma-há-la nam eez-da-lee-ká

    She waved to us from afar.
