у́зкий [ús-keeî] Adjective

narrow, tight

Examples

По э́тим у́зким у́лочкам не прое́дет да́же ма́ленькая маши́на.

pa é-teem ús-keem ú-lach-kam nye pra-yé-deet dá-zhe má-leen'-ka-ya ma-shée-na

Even a small car will not pass through these narrow streets.
У него́ чрезвыча́йно у́зкий кругозо́р.

u nee-vó chreez-vy-cháî-na ús-keeî kru-ga-zór

He has an extremely narrow mental outlook. (He is extremely narrow-minded.)

хру́пкий [hrúp-keeî] Adjective

fragile, brittle

Examples

Осторо́жно, э́то о́чень хру́пкое!

as-ta-rózh-na, é-ta ó-cheen' hrúp-ka-ye

Bе careful, it is very fragile!
Он пошёл по хру́пкому льду и провали́лся.

on pa-shól pa hrúp-ka-mu l'du ee pra-va-léel-sya

He went over the fragile ice and fell through.

широ́кий [shee-ró-keeî] Adjective

wide, broad

Examples

Магази́н предлага́ет широ́кий ассортиме́нт това́ров для дете́й.

ma-ga-zéen preed-la-gá-eet shee-ró-keeî a-sar-tee-myént ta-vá-raf dlya dee-tyéî

The store offers a wide range of products for children.
Он шёл широ́ким ша́гом.

on shyol shee-ró-keem shá-gam

He walked with a wide stride.

огро́мный [ag-róm-nyî] Adjective

huge, vast, enormous, tremendous

Examples

На за́днем дворе́ до́ма рос огро́мный столе́тний дуб.

na zád-nyem dva-ryé dó-ma ros ag-róm-nyî dup

A huge 100-year-old oak tree grew in the back yard of the house.
Кни́га произвела́ на меня́ огро́мное впечатле́ние.

knée-ga pra-eez-vee-lá na mee-nyá ag-róm-na-ye fpee-cheet-lýe-nee-ye

The book made a huge impression on me.

ма́ленький [má-leen'-keeî] Adjective

little, small

Examples

У неё тро́е дете́й, са́мому ма́ленькому 4 го́да.

u nee-yó tró-ye dee-tyéî, sá-ma-mu má-leen'-ka-mu chee-tý-rye gó-da

She has three children, the youngest is 4 years old.
Назва́ния языко́в в ру́сском пи́шутся с ма́ленькой бу́квы.

naz-vá-nee-ya ya-zy-kóf v rús-kam pée-shu-tsa s má-leen'-kaî búk-vy

The names of the languages in Russian are written with lowercase.

тяжёлый [tee-zhó-lyî] Adjective

heavy, hard, difficult

Examples

День вы́дался тяжёлый.

dyen' vý-dal-sya tee-zhó-lyî

The day was hard.
Э́та су́мка сли́шком тяжёлая, в ручну́ю кладь её не допу́стят.

é-ta súm-ka sléesh-kam tee-zhó-la-ya, v ruch-nú-yu klad' ye-yó nye da-pús-tyat

This bag is too heavy, it will not be allowed in hand luggage.

высо́кий [vy-só-keeî] Adjective

high, tall

Examples

У него́ высо́кая температу́ра.

u nee-vó vy-só-ka-ya teem-pee-ra-tú-ra

He has high fever.
Норве́гия - э́то страна́ с одни́м из са́мых высо́ких у́ровней жи́зни.

nar-vyé-gee-ya - é-ta stra-ná s ad-néem eez sá-myh vy-só-keeh ú-rav-nyeî zhéez-nee

Norway is a country with one of the highest living standards.

твёрдый [tvyór-dyî] Adjective

hard, solid, rigid, firm

Examples

Он при́нял твёрдое реше́ние бро́сить кури́ть с за́втрашнего дня.

on prée-neel tvyór-da-ye ree-shé-nee-ye bró-seet' ku-réet' s záv-trash-nee-va dnya

He made a firm decision to stop smoking from tomorrow.
Она́ подошла́ к нам твёрдым ша́гом.

a-ná pa-dash-lá k nam tvyór-dym shá-gam

She approached us stepping firmly.

ни́зкий [néez-keeî] Adjective

low, short

Examples

Потолки́ в кварти́ре бы́ли о́чень ни́зкими.

pa-tal-kée v kvar-tée-rye bý-lee o-cheen' néez-kee-mee

The ceilings in the apartment were very low.
Владе́льцем рестора́на оказа́лась пожила́я же́нщина ни́зкого ро́ста.

vla-dyél'-tsem rees-ta-rá-na a-ka-zá-las' pa-zhee-lá-ya zhén-schee-na néez-ka-va rós-ta

The owner of the restaurant turned out to be an elderly woman of low stature.

мя́гкий [myáh-keeî] Adjective

soft, gentle, mild

Examples

Зима́ в э́том году́ была́ о́чень мя́гкой.

zee-má v é-tam ga-dú by-lá ó-cheen' myáh-kaî

The winter this year was very mild.
Ко́мната была́ заби́та мя́гкими игру́шками.

kóm-na-ta by-lá za-bée-ta myáh-kee-mee eeg-rúsh-ka-mee

The room was crammed with stuffed toys.
