приду́мывать [pree-dú-my-vat'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - приду́мать

to think out, to devise, to contrive, to invent

Examples

Е́сли не зна́ешь, не приду́мывай.

yés-lee nye zná-eesh', nye pree-dú-my-vaî

If you don't know, don't invent things.
Не жела́я признава́ть реа́льного положе́ния веще́й, расстра́иваться и напряга́ться, мы ча́сто начина́ем приду́мывать оправда́ния ситуа́ции.

to lay together, to put together; to pile up, to heap, to stack; to pack; (math.) to add, to sum up; to fold (up)

Examples

Скла́дывай оде́жду в э́ту коро́бку.

sklá-dy-vaî a-dyézh-du v é-tu ka-róp-ku

Put the clothes in this box.
Он уме́ет скла́дывать многозна́чные чи́сла в уме́.

on u-myé-eet sklá-dy-vat' mna-ga-znách-ny-ye chées-la v u-myé

He can add multi-digit numbers in his head.

сообрази́ть [sa-ab-ra-zéet'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - сообража́ть

to understand, to grasp, to realize, to figure out

Examples

Мы ника́к не могли́ сообрази́ть, в како́й стороне́ нахо́дится вы́ход.

my nee-ká nye mag-lée sa-ab-ta-zéet', f ka-kóî sta-ta-nyé na-hó-dee-tsa vý-hat

We couldn't figure out which way the exit was.
Я что́-то не соображу́, как э́та коро́бка открыва́ется.

ya chto-ta nye za-ab-ra-zhú, kak é-ta ka-róp-ka at-kry-vá-ee-tsa

I can’t figure out how this box opens.

сообража́ть [sa-ab-ra-zhát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - сообрази́ть

to think, to consider, to ponder; to understand, to grasp

Examples

Он отча́янно сообража́л, что же тепе́рь де́лать.

on at-chá-een-na sa-ab-ra-zhál, chto zhe tee-pyér' dyé-lat'

He was desperately pondering what to do now.
Извини́, я сего́дня ту́го сообража́ю.

eez-vee-née, ya see-vód-nya tú-ga sa-ab-ra-zhá-yu

пыта́ться [py-tá-tsa] Verb, imperfective

to try, to attempt

Examples

Да́же не пыта́йся меня́ переубеди́ть.

dá-zhe nye py-táî-sya mee-nyá pee-ree-u-bee-déet'

Don't even try to convince me otherwise.
В тече́ние получа́са он безуспе́шно пыта́лся дозвони́ться до слу́жбы подде́ржки.

f tee-chyé-nee-ee pa-lu-chá-sa on beez-us-pyésh-na py-tál-sya da-zva-née-tsa da slúzh-by pad-dyérsh-kee

For half an hour, he unsuccessfully tried to get through to the support service.

листа́ть [lees-tát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - пролиста́ть

to turn over the pages, to leaf over / through

Examples

Он стал листа́ть кни́гу, ме́дленно перевора́чивая пожелте́вшие от вре́мени страни́цы.

обща́ться [ap-schá-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - пообща́ться

to communicate, to associate, to socialize

Examples

По до́лгу слу́жбы я ча́сто обща́юсь с иностра́нцами.

pa dól-du slúzh-by ya chás-ta ap-schá-yus' s ee-na-stráns-tsa-mee

Due to my work, I often communicate with foreigners.
Мы не ча́сто обща́емся.

my nye chás-ta ap-schá-eem-sya

We don't communicate often.

откры́ть [atk-rýt'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - открыва́ть

to open

Examples

Она́ пыта́лась откры́ть дверь, дёргая ру́чку, но та ника́к не поддава́лась.

a-ná py-tá-las' atk-rýt' dvyer', dyór-ga-ya rúch-ku, no ta nee-kák nye pad-da-vá-las'

She tried to open the door by pulling on the handle, but it wouldn't budge.
Он откры́л холоди́льник и ту́по уста́вился в него́.

on atk-rýl ha-la-déel-neek ee tú-pa us-tá-veel-sya v nee-vó

He opened the refrigerator and stared blankly into it.

налива́ть [na-lée-vát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - нали́ть

to pour

Examples

Не налива́й ему́ бо́льше.

nye na-lee-váî ye-mu ból-she

Don't let him drink anymore.
Она́ пригласи́ла нас за стол и ста́ла налива́ть чай.

a-ná pree-gla-sée-la nas za stol ee stá-la na-lee-vát' chaî

She invited us to the table and began to pour tea.

дрема́ть [dree-mát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - задрема́ть

to be half asleep; (figurative) to be at rest, immobility

Examples

Пуши́стый разбо́йник сла́дко дрема́л в глубине́ кре́сла.

pu-shées-tyî raz-bóî-neek slát-ka dree-mál v glu-bee-nyé kryés-la

The fluffy bandit was dozing sweetly in the back of the chair.
Вся окре́стная приро́да дрема́ла в глубо́ком поко́е, наруша́емом то́лько пти́чьим пе́нием.

fsya ak-ryés-na-ya pree-ró-da dree-má-la v glu-bó-kam pa-kó-ye, na-ru-shá-ye-mam tól'-la ptéech'-eem pyé-nee-yem
