волнова́ться [val-na-vá-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - разволнова́ться

to worry, to be worried, to be nervous, to be agitated

Examples

Не волну́йся, всё бу́дет хорошо́!

nya val-núî-sya, fsyo bú-deet ha-ra-shó

Do not worry, everything will be fine!
Он так волнова́лся, что почти́ не мог говори́ть.

on tak val-na-vál-sya, chto pach-tée nye mok ga-va-réet'

He was so nervous that could hardly speak.

щеко́тно [schee-kót-na] Adverb

it tickles

Examples

Переста́нь, мне щеко́тно!

pee-rees-tán', mnye schee-kót-na

Stop it, it's tickling!
Идти́ босико́м бы́ло щеко́тно.

eet-tée ba-see-kóm bý-la schee-kót-na

Going barefoot was tickling.

пережива́ть [pee-ree-zhee-vát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - пережи́ть

to worry, to be upset, to take hard; to experience, to go through, to undergo, to suffer

Examples

Он поссо́рился с жено́й, тепе́рь пережива́ет.

on pas-só-reel-sya c zhee-nóî, tee-pyér' pee-ree-zhee-vá-eet

He quarreled with his wife and is now in depression.
Страна́ пережива́ет тяжёлое вре́мя.

stra-ná pee-ree-zhee-vá-eet tee-zhó-la-ye vryé-mya

The country is going through a difficult time.

стра́нно [strán-na] Adverb

strangely, oddly, curiously, funnily, peculiarly; it is strange, it is weird

Examples

Стра́нно, что она́ не отве́тила на письмо́.

strán-na, chto a-ná nye at-vyé-tee-la na pees'-mó

It is strange that she did not respond to the letter/message.
Он вёл себя́ о́чень стра́нно.

on vyol see-byá ó-cheen' strán-na

He behaved very strangely.

стыди́ться [sty-dée-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - устыди́ться

to be ashamed

Examples

Здесь не́чего стыди́ться.

zdes' nyé-chee-va sty-dée-tsa

It's nothing to be ashamed of.
Он стыди́лся показа́ть свою́ необразо́ванность.

on sty-déel-sya pa-ka-zát' sva-yú nee-ab-ra-zó-van-nast'

He was ashamed to show his ignorance.

утоми́ть [u-ta-méet'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - утомля́ть

to bore, to tire

Examples

Он меня́ утоми́л разгово́рами.

on mee-nyá u-ta-méel raz-ga-vó-ra-mee

He tired me with talking.
Вся э́та сумато́ха её изря́дно утоми́ла.

fsya é-ta su-ma-tó-ha ye-yó eez-ryád-na u-ta-mée-la

All this turmoil made her pretty tired.

стыд [styt] Noun, masculine

shame

Examples

Они́ совсе́м стыд потеря́ли!

a-née saf-syém styt pa-tee-ryá-lee

They have completely lost shame!
Он испы́тывал чу́вство стыда́.

on ees-pý-ty-val chúst-va sty-dá

He felt ashamed (the sense of shame).

смуща́ться [smu-schá-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - смути́ться

to be embarrassed, confused; to experience awkwardness, shyness

Examples

При ви́де папарацци она́ не ста́ла смуща́ться, a хо́лодно поприве́тствовала их же́стом.

pree vée-dye pa-pa-rá-tsee a-ná nye stá-la smu-schá-tsa, a hó-lad-na pa-pree-vyét-stva-va-la eeh zhés-tam

Having noticed the paparazzi she did not become confused but coldly greeted them with a gesture.
Он смуща́ется ка́ждый раз, как я загова́риваю с ним.

on smu-schá-ee-tsa kázh-dyî raz kak ya za-ga-vá-ree-va-yu s neem

He becomes so shy every time I try to talk to him.

успоко́иться [us-pa-kó-ee-tsa] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - успока́иваться

to calm down

Examples

Успоко́йтесь, всё бу́дет хорошо́!

us-pa-kóî-tyes', fsyo bú-deet ha-ra-shó

Calm down, everything will be fine!
Че́рез полчаса́ по́сле приня́тия табле́тки боль успоко́илась.

chyé-ryez pol-cha-sá pós-lye pree-nyá-tee-ya tab-lýet-kee bol' us-pa-kó-ee-las'

Half an hour after taking the pill, the pain calmed down.

сты́дно [stýd-na] Adverb

it is shameful, it is a shame

Examples

Тебе́ не сты́дно тако́е говори́ть?

tee-byé nye stýd-na ta-kó-ye ga-va-réet'

Are you not ashamed to say that?
Ему́ бы́ло о́чень сты́дно.

ye-mú bý-la ó-cheen' stýd-na

He was very ashamed.
