возмути́ться [vaz-mu-tée-tsa] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - возмуща́ться

to become indignant / outraged, to protest

Examples

Сотру́дники возмути́лись сокраще́нием зарпла́т.

sat-rúd-nee-kee vaz-mu-tée-lees' sa-kra-schyé-nee-yem zar-plát

Employees were outraged by the reduction in salaries.
Она́ возмути́лась, услы́шав его́ сло́ва.

a-ná vaz-mu-tée-las', us-lý-shaf ye-vó sla-vá

She got outraged at hearing his words.

возмуща́ться [vaz-mu-schá-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - возмути́ться

to be indignant, to be shocked, to be outraged

Examples

Возмуща́ться мо́жно до́лго, но э́то бесполе́зно, ну́жно что́-то де́лать.

vaz-mu-schá-tsa mózh-na dól-ga. no é-ta bees-pa-lyéz-na, ná-da chto-ta dyé-lat'

We can be indignant for a while, but it is useless, we need to do something.
Мы возмуща́лись года́ми, но э́то ничего́ не измени́ло.

my vaz-mu-schá-lees' ga-dá-mee, no é-ta nee-chee-vó nye eez-mee-née-la

We were indignant for years, but that didn’t change anything.

удиви́тельный [u-dee-vée-teel'-nyî] Adjective

surprising, astonishing, striking, amazing, strange, wonderful

Examples

Удиви́тельные ве́щи происхо́дят после́днее вре́мя.

u-dee-vée-teel'-ny-ye vyé-schee pra-ees-hó-dyat pas-lyéd-nye-ye vryé-mya

Amazing things have been happening lately.
Како́й удиви́тельный поворо́т собы́тий, ты не нахо́дишь?

ka-kóî u-dee-vée-teel'-nyî pa-va-rót sa-bý-teeî, ty nye na-hó-deesh'

недоуме́ние [nee-da-u-myé-nee-ye] Noun, neuter

bewilderment, perplexity

Examples

Мой вопро́с привёл его́ в недоуме́ние.

moî va-prós pree-vyól ye-vó v nee-da-u-myé-nee-ye

My question puzzled him.
В её взгля́де чу́вствовалось лёгкое недоуме́ние.

v ye-yó vzglyá-dye chúst-va-va-las' lyóh-ka-ye nee-da-u-myé-nee-ye

There was a slight perplexity in her gaze.

расстро́иться [ra-stró-ee-tsa] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - расстра́иваться

to get upset; to be out of tune (about musical instruments); to fall to the ground (about plans)

Examples

Роди́тели расстро́ились, что ты не прие́дешь.

ra-dée-tee-lee ra-stró-ee-lees', chto ty nye pree-yé-deesh'

Parents are upset that you are not coming.
Гита́ра совсе́м расстро́илась.

gee-tá-ra saf-syém ra-stró-ee-las'

The guitar is completely out of tune.

расстра́иваться [rast-rá-ee-va-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - расстро́иться

to get upset; to be out of tune (musical instruments); to fall apart (plans, etc.)

Examples

Она́ всегда́ о́чень расстра́ивается, когда́ прои́грывает.

a-ná fseeg-dá ó-cheen' rast-rá-ee-va-ee-tsa, kag-dá pra-éeg-ry-vá-eet

She is always very upset when she loses.
Не на́до расстра́иваться и́з-за де́нег, они́ прихо́дят и ухо́дят.

nye ná-da rast-rá-ee-va-tsa eez-za dyé-nyek, a-neé pree-hó-dyat ee u-hó-dyat

No need to be upset about the money, it comes and goes.

наде́яться [na-dyé-ya-tsa] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - понаде́яться

to hope

Examples

Бу́дем наде́яться, что всё обойдётся.

bú-deem na-dyé-ya-tsa, chto fsyo a-baî-dyó-tsa

Let's hope that everything will work out.
Мы наде́ялись на лу́чшее, так и получи́лось.

my na-dyé-ya-lees' na lúch-shee-ye, tak ee pa-lu-chée-las'

We hoped for the best, and it happened.

обалде́ть [a-bal-dyét'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - обалдева́ть

(informal) to go out of one's mind, to lose one's wits; to be stunned; to get shocked

Examples

Мы слегка́ обалде́ли от его́ на́глости.

my sleeg-ká a-bal-dyé-lee at ye-vó nág-las-tee

We got a bit shocked by his impudence.
Впервы́е побыва́в на их конце́рте, я про́сто обалде́л от восто́рга.

vpeer-vý-ye pa-by-váf na eeh ka-tsér-tye, a pró-sta a-bal-dyél at vas-tór-ga

After having visited their concert for the first time, I was simply stunned.

hope

Examples

Наде́жда умира́ет после́дней.

na-dyézh-da u-mee-rá-eet pas-lyéd-nyeî

Hope dies last.
На тебя́ тепе́рь вся наде́жда, не подведи́!

na tee-byá tee-pyér' fsya na-dyézh-da, nye pad-vee-dée

All our hopes are now lie with you, do not let us down!

самооблада́ние [sa-ma-ab-la-dá-nee-ye] Noun, neuter

self-control, composure

Examples

Потеря́в самооблада́ние от волне́ния, она́ вдруг запла́кала.

pa-tee-ryáf sa-ma-ab-la-dá-nee-ye at val-nyé-nee-ya, a-na vdruk za-plá-ka-la

Having lost her composure from nervousness, she suddenly burst into tears.
Из всех прису́тствующих он еди́нственный сохрани́л по́лное самооблада́ние.

eez fsyeh pree-sútst-vu-yu-scheeh on ye-déenst-veen-nyî sah-ra-néel pól-na-ye sa-ma-ab-la-dá-nee-ye

Out of all those present, he was the only one who maintained complete self-control.
