По́сле шу́много засто́лья го́сти запуска́ли фейерве́рки.

After a loud feast, the guests launched fireworks.

He invited her to a restaurant.

She opened her own restaurant of Russian cuisine.

у́жин [ú-zheen] Noun, masculine

supper, dinner

Examples

Мы пригласи́ли друзе́й на у́жин.

my pree-gla-sée-lee dru-zyéî na ú-zheen

We invited friends to dinner.
По́сле у́жина мы смотре́ли кино́.

pós-lye ú-zhee-na my smat-ryé-lee kee-nó

After dinner, we watched a movie.

dinner, lunch; midday meal

Examples

По́чта закры́та на обе́д.

póch-ta zak-rý-ta na a-byét

The post office is closed for lunch.
За обе́дом мы обсуди́ли после́дние но́вости.

za a-byé-dam my ap-su-dée-lee pas-lyéd-nee-ye nó-vas-tee

During lunch we discussed the latest news.

Drink in small sips.

за́втрак [záft-rak] Noun, masculine

breakfast

Examples

Что у нас на за́втрак?

chto u nas na záft-rak

What do we have for breakfast?
За́втрак включён в сто́имость но́мера.

záft-rak fklyu-chyón f stó-ee-mast' nó-mee-ra

Breakfast is included in the room price.

у́жинать [ú-zhee-nat'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - поу́жинать

to take / have supper

Examples

Приходи́ к нам у́жинать.

pree-ha-dée k nam ú-zhee-nat'

Come and have dinner (supper) with us.
Она́ у́жинает не по́зже семи́ часо́в ве́чера.

a-ná ú-zhee-na-eet nye póz-zhe see-mée chee-sóf vyé-chee-ra

She has supper not later than 7 PM.

обе́дать [a-byé-dat'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - пообе́дать

to have dinner / lunch, to dine

Examples

Все к столу́! Пора́ обе́дать.

fsye k sta-lú! pa-rá a-byé-dat'

Everybody to the table! It's time to have lunch.
Вы уже́ обе́дали?

vy u-zhé a-byé-da-lee

Have you had lunch already?

безвку́сный [bees-fkús-nyî] Adjective

tasteless

Examples

Пиро́г получи́лся безвку́сным.

pee-rók pa-lu-chéel-sya bees-fkús-nym

The cake turned out to be tasteless.
Кака́я безвку́сная пи́цца, как бу́дто рези́ну жуёшь.

ka-ká-ya bees-fkús-na-ya pée-tsa, kak bút-ta ree-zée-nu zhu-yósh'

What a tasteless pizza, it's like chewing rubber.
