засну́ть [zas-nút'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - засыпа́ть

to fall asleep

Examples

Она засну́ла сра́зу же, как её голова́ косну́лась поду́шки.

a-ná zas-nú-la srá-zu zhe, kak ye-yó ga-la-vá kas-nú-las' pa-dúsh-kee

She fell asleep as soon as her head touched the pillow.
Я вот-вот засну́.

ya vot-vot zas-nú

I'm about to fall asleep.

носи́ть [na-séet'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - понести́, снести́

to wear, to carry, to bear

Examples

Почему́ ты не но́сишь ша́пку?

pa-chee-mú ty nye nó-seesh' sháp-ku

Why don't you wear a hat?
Он буква́льно носи́л её на рука́х.

on buk-vál'-na na-séel ye-yó na ru-káh

He was literally carrying her in his arms (treated her like a queen).

мыть [myt'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - помы́ть, вы́мыть

to wash

Examples

Ты мыл ру́ки пе́ред едо́й?

ty myl rú-kee pyé-ryed ye-dóî

Have you washed your hands before eating?
Я мо́ю посу́ду.

ya mó-yu pa-sú-du

I'm washing dishes.

устава́ть [us-ta-vát'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - уста́ть

to get tired

Examples

Она́ о́чень устаёт на рабо́те.

a-ná ó-cheen' us-ta-yót na ra-bó-tye

She gets very tired at work.
Он никогда́ не устава́л быть до́брым к лю́дям.

on nee-kag-dá nye us-ta-vál byt' dób-rym k lyú-dyam

He was never tired of being kind to people.

Examples

Мы взя́ли всё, кро́ме зубны́х щёток.

We took everything except toothbrushes.
В шкафу́ есть ли́шняя зубна́я щётка.

разбуди́ть [raz-bu-déet'] Verb, perfective. Imperfective - буди́ть

to wake somebody up

Examples

Разбуди́ меня́ в 9:30.

raz-bu-dée mee-nya f dyé-veet' trée-tsat'

Wake me up at 9:30.
Меня́ разбуди́ли посреди́ но́чи гро́мкие кри́ки с у́лицы.

mee-nyá raz-bu-dée-lee pas-ree-dée nó-chee gróm-kee-ye krée-kee s ú-lee-tsy

Loud screams from the street woke me up in the middle of the night.

по́лдничать [póld-nee-chat'] Verb, imperfective

to have an afternoon snack (poldnik)

Examples

Обы́чно мы не по́лдничаем.

a-bých-na my nye póld-nee-chee-eem

Usually we do not have an afternoon snack.
Пока́ го́сти по́лдничали, хозя́йка до́ма расска́зывала о ме́стных тради́циях.

буди́ть [bu-déet'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - разбуди́ть

to wake somebody up

Examples

Ка́ждое у́тро о́коло семи́ меня́ бу́дят кри́ки птиц за окно́м.

kázh-da-ye út-ra ó-ka-la see-mée ut-rá mee-nyá bú-dyat krée-kee pteets za ak-nóm

Every morning at about seven, the cries of birds outside the window wake me up.
Не буди́ его́, пусть поспи́т.

nye bu-dée ye-vó, pust' pas-peét

Do not wake him, let him sleep.

I was late because my alarm did not work.
Поста́вь буди́льник на 8 у́тра.

pas-taf' bu-déel'-neek na vó-seem' ut-rá

Set an alarm at 8 in the morning.

спать [spat'] Verb, imperfective. Perfective - поспа́ть

to sleep, to be asleep

Examples

Ти́ше, де́ти уже́ спят!

tée-she, dyé-tee u-zhé spyat

Hush, the children are already sleeping!
Дежу́рная сестра́ кре́пко спала́ в кре́сле у крова́ти.

dee-zhúr-na-ya seest-rá kryép-ka spa-lá f kryés-lye u kra-vá-tee

The duty sister was sound asleep in a chair by the bed.
